Update your kitchen door style to make your kitchen look brand spanking new, without the hefty price tag.
Redooring is the process of removing the existing cabinet doors and drawer fronts, crown moldings and valances from your kitchen and replacing them with new ones. If you like, existing hardware can be either reused or replaced with upgrades - such as soft close hinges and drawer slides. Boxes can be left intact or certain configurations can be altered to acommodate new appliances, such as raising a cabinet box to fit a new refrigerator.
Since the great majority of the visible portions of most cabinets consist of the doors and fronts, redooring is an excellent way to give your kitchen a new look and feel while spending less than you would on a brand new kitchen.
Re-dooring is different from refacing in that the cabinet boxes are usually refinished in solid colours instead of being veneered over, so redooring is not the best option if you wanted to change your stain colour. If that was your goal, then a complete reface is in order. The main difference between a reface and a redoor is veneering the finished ends (exposed end panels) and edgebanding.
If you don't like your current door style, if they're looking a little dated, or they're in poor condition, and you wanted to go with a solid colour finish, then redooring might be your best and most affordable option.
As with refinishing, when redooring we can finish the existing cabinet boxes and frames in the same colour as your new doors. However, it should be noted that this won't work with a stain, so if you want stained cabinets in a different colour than what you already have, then refacing with veneers is probably your best option.
